Mash-Up
The episode premiered on the Fox network on October twenty-one, 2009. It was by series co-creator Ian Brennan and directed by Elodie Keene. The episode sees Glee club director Will Schuester ( Matthew Morrison ) attempt to create a mash-up wedding song for his comrades Emma ( Jayma Mays ) and Ken ( Patrick Gallagher ). The same three songs feature on the album glee : The Music, Volume 1, while a fourth is included as a bonus track on copies of the album bought from Target. Bloom, and went on to license the show a second song for later use.
The episode was watched by 7.24 million US viewers. The wall street journal’s Raymund Flandez described’Mash-Up’ as a’turning point’ for Glee, praising the episode for its character development. Flandez, Andrea Reiher of Zap2it and IGN’s Eric Goldman honored Mays’ first vocal performance, “I could have Danced All Night” from My Fair Lady, however other musical performances drew feedback, with Michael Slezak of Entertainment Weekly deeming Morrison’s cover of “Bust a Move” says a pale imitation of the original.
