Glee has received generally favorable reviews, with a Metacritic score of 77 out of 100, from 18 critical comments. Review the pilot episode, Alessandra Stanley in The New York Times calls the show “happily not a cleverly original and imaginative,” saying that the characters are archetypes of the high school, “but noting that” a strong satirical pulse that does not diminish the characters’ identities or mitigate the sight of a talented cast .
David The Daily News’ Hinckley wrote that the show “is almost perfect,” but “has sympathetic characters, a good sense of humor and a touch really pretty good music. “USA Today’s Robert Bianco evaluated:” There is much to like here: the exuberance of the numbers musical, the bite of comedy and the joy of seeing something different. It has been cast and the problems of tone, but have all summer to fix them. “Mary McNamara Los Angeles Times called jubilation: “the first show in a long time at full throttle is simply not-guilty-pleasure-fun rationalizations necessary.”
Variety Brian Lowry was critical of the first episodes of the series, highlighting the performance and characterization of problems and considering that the cast of adults “over-the-top buffoons” with the exception of Emma Mays, who felt they offered “a modest redemption. Glee and cast of characters, Jane Lynch and Sue Sylvester has been particularly well received. McNamara Los Angeles Times has written that “only makes Lynch Glee worth seeing.”
